I'm still confused as to what is considered bokeh. My camera club topic for this month is bokeh. I really like this shot, but I'm not sure if it fits into bokeh, or if it's more shallow depth of field. I'd love your opinions.
The definition of bokeh is "blur or haze" therefore I would consider this is certainly bokeh. It will be interesting to hear what your club interpretation is. Lovely image BTW!
@judithdeacon this is where I get confused Judith as other definitions talk about specular highlights and show "bokeh dots" as examples. I have until midnight tomorrow to decide on my three images.
I think it would be more bokeh-ish if the background were uniform, the monochrome green directly behond the rose lacks the soft speckles of traditional bokeh (bt what so I know??) Its a lovely rose, you've fogot such brilliant focus on its details
It will be interesting what your club says about bokeh! What I understand it to be is more a "spotty" blurred background. Lovely rose too! Please keep us informed :)
Lovely shot Merrelyn. You have bokeh and have a look at the Nikon explanation. Basically any out of focus background is bokeh and the type of bokeh depends on the type of lens ,distance you to subject, subject to background etc .Nikon explain it fairly well without too much b/s.
Interesting to read the discussion on this beautiful shot - I, too, have often wondered just what actually defines bokeh - wonderful focus on the rose and droplets - and nice soft blurred background.
Lovely rose capture, Merrelyn! I took Peter's advice and looked up Nikon's online explanation of bokeh. I think he's correct...they do a great job of explaining it. :-)
Lovely shot of the rose and water drops with a nicely blurred background. As for the bokeh, you know that I have no idea ;)
I found the discussion here very interesting as I thought bokeh was a spotty background more than a blurred background. I am even more confused now, lol.
