I was hoping for another shot of my favourite old jetty. Unfortunately it sustained even more damage while we were away and the demolition team was called in.
The worker in the water was wearing a wetsuit but the wind was quite cold. He was using a jet of water to try to loosen the suction holding the pylon in palce. His hands must have been freezing.
@deborah63 No Debbie, it's the old ferry jetty at Mersey Point, for Penguin Island trips. They've built a new concrete jetty a few hundred metres up the beach from this one.
It is always sad when your favourite photo subjects go. I had a favourite bridge in Newcastle that was demolished to make way for an ugly modern concrete one and a favourite walkway over the road in Newcastle too has gone and we now have to struggle to compete with the traffic to cross the road.
Sad when favourite spots disappear
