I could not get in a good position to tell for sure if it was the light or whether those wings really are dark. If so, this is a scarlet tanager - if the early light is playing tricks with me, then it's a summer tanager. Either way, he sure was pretty.
@terryliv The orioles, grosbeaks, thrushes, buntings, and the hummingbirds are only here in summer, the pelicans only here in winter. Most of the rest are usually here year round - though I wouldn't swear to that!
