Lots of young scissortail flycatchers right now. Walked early because have a guy coming to try to reinforce the neighbor's fence from my side. Their dog dug under the fence where Jerik was kneeling down to take a picture, pulled Jerik's leg back through the fence, and had Jerik's shoe & sock off and his foot in the dog's mouth by the time I got there yesterday. Scared the daylights out of both of us. The woman wasn't overly concerned - but I sure was!
That's terrible the dog would try to pull him under the fence. Glad he is ok. Beautiful shot. You must have butterflies on the brain. I think you mean scissortail. I recently wrote someone that Blue Jays were Covids. It took me a minute to figure out I meant Corvid.
@louannwarren Unfortunately, it's not MY fence - otherwise it would be replaced! But I think we've fixed it where he can't dig under any more (hopefully) and the owner knows the steps we've tried to do.
That is very aggressive behavior by that dog- I'd be on the lookout if he's out when Jerik's out. The fact that the neighbor didn't really respond with concern is also disconcerting. I would definitely let your neighbor if anything like that happens again the authorities will have to be called in if a better and stronger fence is not put in place. That is just not safe! A child should not have to defend themselves against a dog! That's really traumatic! Well, enough of my soapbox rant. The picture is beautiful!
Such a precious little bird. Darling pose it gave you.
I found myself holding my breath while reading the story about the "attack" from under the fence—oh my! Glad Jerik didn't get hurt.
Great pic of this youngster! But my goodness, what an ordeal with the fence and the neighbor's dog! We have trouble with our neighbor's dogs (3 of them) that run loose. Trying to keep landscaping up with male dogs in the neighborhood is a fruitless task, but at least my neighbor's dogs aren't aggressive. I would welcome them if they did not hike their legs on everything.
Some dog owners are so irresponsible; I'm surprised she didn't tell you the dog was 'only being friendly' - that's the usual indignant response when you complain to them about the behaviour of their spoiled, undisciplined 'fur baby'.
Oh dear, that was a bit of a rant! I hope your neighbour's dog doesn't give you and your family any more cause for concern.
Moving on to the topic of this lovely image: what a sweet little bird, and so well captured! Great focusing and details and as always, you've managed to get a nice catchlight in his eye.
@glendamg They basically seem to live through Texas, Oklahoma, and western Arkansas. Didn't realize they were pretty limited. When they're older that have really long tails like a scissor.
@radiogirl I strictly shoot jpeg - haven't tried working in raw. Didn't do much with this other than some light cropping. For $187 got the fence secured I hope. Jerik is still a little nervous when he hears that dog barking.
Oh my gosh! Poor Jerik. I hope that scary experience doesn't stay with him for long. I can't believe the dog owner wasn't more concerned!!!! Lucky Jerik had his grandma there to save him:) Love your scissortail - so sweet.

So glad to hear Jerik was ok............that is a terrifying experience for a child! Hope your fence is fixed!
