ram's horn squid
Internal shell of a Spirula spirula (diameter 1.5 cm). The Spirula spirula is deep water squid-like cephalopod mollusk. Live specimens of this cephalopod are very rarely seen, because it is a deep-ocean dweller. This small internal shell is known to shell collectors as the ram's horn shell or simply as Spirula. The shell is extremely lightweight, very buoyant and surprisingly durable; it very commonly floats ashore all over the world.
These samples from my collection are from the west coast of New Zealand's South Island. And I played a bit in Photoshop,…
Love you light, focus, and background. Lovely little shell.
