2015-06-14 alpiner ringelspinner (malacosoma alpicola)

We were in the mountains today. Hiking. The weather was unstable, and there were severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall predicted. So, for safety reasons we stayed just above the tree line and did not hike further up. We enjoyed the mountain spring with lots of flowers and did find rare and not so rare orchid species. Nevertheless, today’s 365 picture of the day, is a furry caterpillar. The larva of an “alpiner Ringelspinner” (Malacosoma alpicola). After the metamorphosis it turns into a species of Snout Moth.
And here is a picture of the view: http://365project.org/mona65/2015-plan-b-alb/2015-06-14
