2017-02-10 Fasnachts-Chüechli

We live in the stronghold of the Swiss Fasnacht (carnival). And for many people our carnival is the most beautiful time of the year, the fifth and most beautiful season. I’m not among those people. As for me, I could completely skip it, except for the so called Fastnachts-Chüechli (typical Swiss carnival pastries). In some regions of Switzerland they are also called Chnüblätz which literally means knee (Chnü) patch (Blätz). The name originates from the time as the pieces of dough were pulled and stretched over the knee into their thin form.
Nowadays nobody makes this crisp pastry at home. It can be bought in every Swiss bakery or even in the supermarked. One of the products that is better bought than homemade, not only because you do not have the annoying frying smell in the house. Just add some powdered sugar.

For flashofred February.
Fantastic lighting .. and your commentary gave me a giggle.

Any fried pastry is delicious! I think many countries have something similar... Here, Indian Fry Bread.

Looks delicious. Thank you for explaining traditions and way of life in Switzerland. I find it most interesting. Wonderful low light in this shot. And that is the sugar being sprinkled? Great timing.
