2017-08-23 opuntia

Opuntia ficus indica in evening light. You call it most probably different: tuna, prickley pear, barbary fig, cactus pear,... you name it.

Unfortunately, here in Switzerland we do not get them often or only for a exorbitant price. In other places they grow at the road side. These are from Southern Italy and havn't been to expensive. So this little crowd is probably all I have for the whole year. Hubby M. doesn't eat them, all mine! Yummy!!!
Nicely composed photo

Mona...I will try to remember to post a photo taken recently tomorrow of prickly pear growing rampantly by the roadside in country New South Wales, Australia..where it must be a terrible pest. But they were peppered with ripe fruit and I doubt a soul was considering harvesting one.
