Light through the Blinds Original by olivetreeann

Light through the Blinds Original

New week, new picture. What shall I do with this? Hmmmm....
I really like the progression of the thickness and degree of light.

Great lines

50 shades of Grey?
January 15th, 2013
@dakotaburns Thanks Donald! It's funny how they came out- I guess it's my perspective, but I thought they looked much straighter when I took the shot.
@kerristephens Thanks Kerri!
@maggiemae Thanks Maggie! Funny but I originally thought of calling the shot "Shades of Grey" but then changed my mind because they weren't really a shade (as in window shade), so I went with the alternative and totally uninspired "Light through the Blinds" instead. lol at myself now.

Well it was a clever idea.

I thought it was a fluted column

@digitalrn @espyetta @prttblues @sangwann
Thank you Rick!
Thank you MaryBeth!
Thank you Bev!
Thank you Dione!

After drawing a blank on what to do with it this morning, I fiddled around and found something I really like. I can see this really is going to be a challenge this week!

Love the lighting. Cool abstract
January 15th, 2013
@salza Thanks Sally! This one is going to be a challenge. The easy way out is to just apply different effects- but can I throw in a few that change the picture? That's what I hope to do.
January 15th, 2013
I like this as it stands. How about using the little planet technique for a mischievous suggestion? :-)
January 15th, 2013
I'll be interested to see your ideas.
January 16th, 2013
@automaticslim Thanks Andy! What is the "little planet"? That sounds like fun!
@henrir Thanks Henri- so will I as I don't plan ahead most of the time!

Nice B & W tonal graduation.

Now I've said it, I just hope I've bookmarked the tutorial! [Rummages through the folders telling himself that he really ought to get organised ...] Yep, got it:

Whether there's a way of doing it with online software I'm not sure, but I hope so because it's a lot of fun. Normally you see panoramas treated like this, but there's plenty of scope for lateral thinking.

@daisy Thank you Kathryn!
@automaticslim Thanks Andy- yes those are sooo cool. I have seen them before just didn't know their official name. I don't have the programming he uses, but I do have an idea of one that might come close in Ribbet. I will be playing with it tomorrow and see what happens!

cooking up some storm with the blinds! i like it!
January 19th, 2013
cooking...which reminds me...i know, we've just gone past the halfway mark for january and it seems february is still a world away, but it is not. it's just 14 days away, like how did that happen?

in any case, february is our black and white month. are we going to have sub-themes like we did in the same september and november challenges?
January 19th, 2013
@summerfield We could if you want- let me know yes or no and if you have any suggestions if yes, and then I'll post it for all to see. And where is Alia????
January 19th, 2013
@olivetreeann - yes, alia, where are you? alia_801 i haven't gone to her album in like ages and i should probably go in there as soon as i post this.

i love how our calendars turned out from september through december. so i thought it would be great to have a sub-theme either vertically or horizontally. we can have landscapes but street shots are best in black and white. if you can't do street shot, the inside of a mall or grocery store, as long as there's an unsuspecting, unidentifiable person in the shot. architecture, perhaps? portraits, not necessarily faces. off the top of my head thoughts. my head's not that big to start with. :-)
January 19th, 2013
@summerfield Ok- I'll noodle around with it today and make up a tentative one for you to edit. Let's go for horizontals- they are easier to manage and since we're doing black and white, it will also look better. I think I'll throw some exposure options in there too. And I must come up with a creative name as well- one that captures the spirit of what we want to see. This is really going to be fun!

@olivetreeann - i like it!
January 19th, 2013
@summerfield See what you think about this:

February with a Twist! Shoot everything in Black and White except for one special day.
Feb. 1-3 Portraits without people
Feb. 4-10 Architecture
Feb. 11-13 A household object
14- Here's the twist: A household object with selective coloring; add a pop of red for Valentine's day
15-17 A household object
Feb. 18-24 Fun with exposure- over or under expose your shots, your choice.
Feb. 25-28 All Around the Town: street shots, store shots, even landscapes- aim to include an unsuspecting, unidentifiable person in the shot.

I think I have the days numbered correctly. The thumbnail calendar always throws me off because it starts the week on Monday and not the first day of the week!
January 20th, 2013
@olivetreeann - i like it! i like it a lot! i bow to you, oh great challenge meister! i can hardly wait for february, ann. and yes, you got the days numbered correctly. i just might have a practice post tomorrow! :-)
January 20th, 2013
@olivetreeann - where are my manners?! thank you, ann. you're the best!
January 20th, 2013
@summerfield hahahaha!! Challenge Meister- oh my! I will organize it a bit better and put it up on Monday- or do you think that's too soon? It might get buried.
January 20th, 2013
@alia_801 - tagging you.
January 21st, 2013
@summerfield Thanks! I'll see how I go, but will try to give this a go :)
January 21st, 2013
@summerfield @alia_801 I got a little tied up with stuff today- I'll try to post this tomorrow!
January 22nd, 2013
