We packed up so quickly and left in such a hurry so that we'd have an extra day in Michigan that I left my Photography and the Art of Seeing book home by mistake. So my last few shots of the Book Club this month are based on some of the things I remember reading. For this shot I was concentrating on a repeated "pattern" made by the footholds on this light tower. And although your eye might not perceive it, this shot is basically breaking the rule of thirds as the area of blue on the right side is about the same size as the area with the tower and sky on the left side of the image. In other words, the composition is a 50/50 split. But it's deceiving because of the smaller portion of blue to the left. The tower itself "pops" due to the fact that blue is a receding color and naturally makes the steel gray tower move forward.
Nice shot, Ann! I love the color of the sky against the tower. It is a great contrast. And I like the optical illusion you mentioned. Very cool. Well done :)
@prttblues Thanks Bev! I was walking around with Isaac when I took this shot. You should have seen him imitating me looking up this tower! He practically fell over at one point!
