You may have heard of the expression "I wouldn't trade that for all the tea in China". Well, that has nothing to do with the alphabet! It was just my way of introducing the alphabetic fact for today: Beyond the logographic form of Chinese writing, many phonetic scripts are in existence in Asia. The Arabic, Hebrew and Syriac alphabets, and other abjads of the Middle East are descendants of the Aramaic alphabet, but because each one of them is largely based on consonants, they are not considered true alphabets. Most alphabetic scripts of India and Eastern Asia are descended from the Brahmi script, which is also believed to be a descendant of Aramaic.
Thanks all- this beautiful T (cross) was made by my son Erick, the mason, who is also a talented artist. He designed and welded this in his shop. It's a magnet and is part of a matched set that is displayed on the metal sheet behind our wood stove. That way we don't have a blank black wall between the stove and the bricks of what used to be the fireplace. So, it's very special to me.
@summerfield Thank you Vikki- no they are magnets that my son fashioned out of steel to attach to the firewall behind our wood stove. They can be removed but there really was no reason too for the picture.
