The word flamboyant has always carried the connotation of being gaudy to me, so I had a rather negative opinion of it. When I saw it on the June word list my first thought was, "Great! I don't own anything flamboyant. That is definitely not my style!" As I started working through the list (and getting the easier words done!) I became concerned I wouldn't come up with something for this word! Finally, I pulled out the dictionary to see if the actual definition might help. Although flamboyant can mean "given to ostentatious or audacious display" (i. e. gaudy!), that definition was actually #3 on the list. The first two: 1) highly elaborate, ornate; and 2) richly colored, resplendent, solved the problem quite nicely for me and had me pulling out this lovely plate that a friend brought to me from Spain. It's certainly beautiful as well as flamboyant! Check that word off the list!!
@adrianchatfield Thanks Adrian! Rococo- I haven't heard that term since my undergrad days as a fine arts major!! @paulavdmerwe Thank you Paula- you are very welcome! I have been there- I know how prayer helps.
I love this type of painted plates and Spain has a gorgeous variety. Your plate is very beautiful! I don't know if it's flamboyant or not. It's beautiful!!!
Oh wow!!! What a gorgeous plate!! Such colors! It's most definitely flamboyant! I almost thought it was one of those color yourself posters (I have a picture of one I did in my 1st album). This is beautiful!!! Excellent picture! Job well done!
Doesn't matter how old we are, we are still learning. I'm learning something new just about everyday. I think one day, I might be smart, you think lol I love this shot, I thought it was a quilt. Lovely colors. Glad you got that one off you list. I'm very behind on the challenge! :-)
@allie912 Thank you Allison! I was just going to shoot something gaudy and awful because I was sure I knew the definition. But then I thought of you, Carla, Chrystal and MaryBeth and thought better of it. Since you're all in education I didn't want to post something that wasn't an actual interpretation of the definition! @vposey Thanks Vickie! I think it's good to learn something new on a regular basis. It helps keep you young.
