I discovered this picture today as I was scanning some of the pictures from my father's things in to the computer. To me, it's such an historic picture. Not only because it's my great grand-parents, but because of where they are! I did my best to bring up the contrast but the picture is quite faded. However, you can't mistake those Falls for anything but Niagara!
I wonder if you'd be allowed to get that close these days. Must really be such an amazing experience to see these falls, I'm sure photos do not do them justice!
i would've been taken before they built the lookout.
this looks like the american side of the falls it is. but looking at it, i'm guessing that it is one of those murals installed where you can pose for a souvenir photo. the falls are too high to get a photograph this close yet have the whole height of the falls in the shot. but i could be wrong. in any case, it is a great find, ann. you must be amazed at all these treasures you're finding! i love looking at old photographs, i think they are romantic!
@daisy Thanks Kathryn! I'm scanning them into my computer and will be making a book for my sisters (and myself) for Christmas. Then I'll divide up the originals between the three of us.
@olivetreeann That would be so very cool. I see a boardwalk in this image, I wonder if it's still there. I've only been there once before, in late December, too much built up ice from the mist on the American side.
@bill_fe I believe they are sitting by the cave where you can go under the Falls. I'm pretty sure these are the American Falls behind them. The only thing I forgot to check out while we were there was if this attraction is still open. I don't recall seeing any signs for it.
