Last one for the landscape challenge. This was taken in Corinth, Greece in 2003. It is the ruin of the Temple to Apollo. I kept up the mini-theme of changing these photographs into paintings and used a water color application on this one.
@gratefulness Thank you Sandi! It was interesting to me to see the way these temples ended up- which parts survived earthquakes, wars and the ravages of Mother Nature. This was certainly one of the more photogenic ones.
@aikimomm Thank you Phoebe! This one seemed to fit the picture better than the Impressionist style I'd used on the others.
@bkbinthecity Thanks Brian! @leestevo Thanks Lee-Ann! @colleenbrown88 Thanks Colleen! @leeannemacd Thanks Lee-Anne! @maggiemae Thanks Maggie! Yes, it is. I can't remember though whether it's red marble or red sandstone. It is a truly impressive structure even with most of it missing! @nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole! @salza Thank you Sally! I thought that too. @nicoleterheide Thank you Nicole! My trip there included a lot of places mentioned in the Bible and I really was struck by the connection with history in that way. I have been to some of the historical places in my own country and have not had the same feeling! @leananiemand Thank you Leana! And thank you so much for the fav!! @thistle Thank you Joyce! I had in mind what I'd like it to look like and this was really close! Thank you so much for the fav! @httpgeffed Thank you Colleen! @fugitivemoments Thank you Linda! I really like that border style too. I guess you can tell since it's on practically every other picture!
@digitalrn Thanks Rick! Yes, it was. There were two highlights in particular- standing where Paul preached in Athens and walking on the Via Egnatia- the Roman road upon which many of the early Christians traveled to spread the Good News. Very cool!
Great shot, Ann. I've never been anywhere outside of the US (and even then not many places) and a little bit in Canada (before passports or ID cards were required). I'd love to travel abroad. I love how you captured the beauty and the age of this.
@prttblues Thanks Bev! I never expected to go anywhere beyond the borders of the US and if it wasn't for an anonymous benefactor during my Master's studies, I probably wouldn't have gone to Greece or back to Israel. So far that is the extent of my foreign travels. I am very grateful for all of them! @daisymiller Thank you Daisy! @vesna0210 Thank you Vesna! @allie912 Thank you Alison!
I love your editing Ann. It really helps emphasise the red colour on the pillars. I have only been to some of the Greek Islands not the mainland. We had planned at some point to do the seven churches of Revelation but seem to be fitting them in bit by bit. Like you I am dubious about Mary. This shot is a big fav.
@ceilidh Thank you Margaret! And thank you so much for the fav! I took my trip to Greece in connection with my seminary studies and really felt it brought so much of the book of Acts to life for me. We visited Patmos and then Ephesus, but that was the extent of it for the Book of Revelation. I do love learning about the places of the Bible. It drives home to me that times may "change" but in reality the struggles we face are very similar (if not no different) from the people in Bible times which therefore makes the words of the Bible even more powerful to me!
