It's the final picture for Architectural August, so what better way to end the month than with a shot of my "home sweet home". Taken in the Spring of 2013, I've always enjoyed the Bloodroot and Daffodils when they come up so my home appears in the background many times. Today's post reminded me of the old saying, "There's no place like home" and I wondered if there was more to it. Well there was, and here it is!
John Howard Payne. 1791–1852
Home, Sweet Home
From the Opera of "Clari, the Maid of Milan"
Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble there 's no place like home!
A charm from the sky seems to hallow us there,
Which, seek through the world, is ne'er met with elsewhere.
Home! home! sweet, sweet home!
There 's no place like home!
An exile from home, splendor dazzles in vain:
O, give me my lowly thatched cottage again!
The birds singing gayly that came at my call;—
Give me them,—and the peace of mind dearer than all!
Home! home! sweet, sweet home!
There 's no place like home!
How sweet 't is to sit 'neath a fond father's smile,
And the cares of a mother to soothe and beguile!
Let others delight mid new pleasures to roam,
But give me, oh, give me, the pleasures of home!
Home! home! sweet, sweet home!
There 's no place like home!
To thee I 'll return, overburdened with care;
The heart's dearest solace will smile on me there;
No more from that cottage again will I roam;
Be it ever so humble, there 's no place like home.
Home! home! sweet, sweet home!
There 's no place like home!
Wonderful shot of your home, sweet home! I love the pov and your inclusion of the flowers. I also love that you included the poem in your commentary. I really enjoyed reading it. There truly is no place like home!
@nicolecampbell Thank you Nicole and thankfully the first day of Autumn isn't until September 23rd so it will be a while before the cooler days start setting in. I can certainly WAIT for that!!
@janetb Thank you Janet! I learned something from searching it out. I didn't realize that "home sweet home" and "be it ever..." were from the same poem and I didn't know the poem was actually part of an opera!
Great end to the series. Like the angle and flowers to show your home. We have been in our current house for nearly 40 years and I felt like I was "coming home" in every way when we found it.
@pyrrhula There are some houses here that are also of stone- there are lots of them in the soil! Most of those houses are from the early days of our country to early 20th c. But the more "modern" homes (those built in the latter part of the 20th and 21st c.) are mostly built of wood.

Thank you Katy, Sally, Jen and Pyrrhula! I'm glad you like the final shot- it was a fun month.
