I am a bit late posting today because I have been out in Newcastle with friends for our regular girlie lunch.
We drove to Stockton and while waiting for the ferry to take us across to Newcastle I spotted this bulk carrier being escorted out to sea by three tugboats and the Port of Newcastle marine pilot.
The ships only half fill up with coat at Newcastle because the channel out of the port is so shallow and it would get stuck on the bottom. They fill up the rest of the ship at Gladstone in Queensland and then this ship is off to Japan.
@happypat One of our lunch ladies has recently moved from here in the bay to Fern Bay near Newcastle so we occasionally go for lunch in Newcastle so she doesn't have to travel so far. It is a lovely day out though and a nice trip on the ferry makes it easy parking at Stockton instead of driving into Newcastle.
