The continuing saga of the hedgehogs!! Here is the one caught last night - juts fed him some dog food before I take him somewhere far away from home!!
This morning at 6am I let the dogs out into the garden - well away from the caged hedgehog. George started to bark and then Finlay joined in - both right at the back of my garden behind the trees and shrubs. I managed to get in near the dogs and could see there was another hedgehog rolled into a ball in the corner by the fence - George in attack mode with Finlay behind him trying to get in on the act. We managed to get the barking dogs indoors - lots of shouting again. My poor neighbours - it was an early wake up call for a Saturday morning!!
I now have one hedgehog in the trap but the other one has disappeared - probably back tonight. I need to find somewhere to take my visitors which is far away enough so that they will not return. It must be the same two I caught and released two weeks ago - they are homing hedgehogs!!
Update: The hedgehog is now at the animal rescue centre and if/when I catch the other one they will be put together as they are a bonded pair. They will be released in the Spring together. She wanted to release them either in my garden or nearby!! NOOOOOO I told her that was the whole point in bringing them to the centre - so they would be released a long way away from my home!! Please note as she took it out of the trap large fleas were dropping off it. She gave it a flea spray and I stopped off at the pet shot to buy household flea spray. My car has been fumigated!! I feel itchy!!
Many thanks for your lovely comments on yesterday's image of the boys fighting - very much appreciated!!
@pusspup not a pest as they are good for the garden eating slugs etc. It's just that my Wastes are terriers - hunters and they want to catch and kill them.
Oh, I see you're predicament with the two dogs but I wish you could transport them to our garden. We always had hedgehogs until about three years ago and now they have deserted us!
OH dear!!..... they must love your garden.
Your Hedgehog looks like our Australian Anteater or Ekidna.
Do they bury themselves in holes?
Must have been awful with it been covered in darn fleas.
Nothing worse to try and get rid of.
Hope you can relax a little over the weekend & there's no more visitors.
fav.
Not exactly as I imagined them! Could I be thinking of echidnas? Well, do find the little bride or groom or heartbreak may ensue! Your related story this morning had me in stitches!!!
Oh no, fleas!!!! Good thing you saw that and did the spraying. And good thing they know NOT to drop them near your place! I hope you find the mate and can get this situation totally under control.
