Beech Nuts

The Beech trees are starting to drop the shell casings containing nuts usually contain three edible nuts per casing.
Lovely close up. Looks like it is wearing a winter coat.

I have never seen a beech nut. Very interesting shot.

Wow! I've never seen one either. It almost looks like an animal, or a creep carnivorous plant.

@onewing Thank you Babs, they do look cosy don't they, as soon as the shell hits the ground it opens up and their are in the cold:)

@miata2u Thank you Peggy, Beech trees are common over here and also in America,
American beech provides food for numerous species of animals, these include ruffed grouse, wild turkeys, raccoons, red/gray foxes, white-tailed deer, rabbits, squirrels, opossums, pheasants, black bears, porcupines, and yes even humans:)
