Corn Crash by pdulis

Corn Crash

Ontario farmers of corn are facing a tough time this year. Corn prices have been driven down by expectations of a record crop in the United States, and with prices plummeting so fast - some farmers may not even try to sell some of their crop this year - sad to think that at the same time many countries are starving.

A beautiful photo, but bad news for the farmers. I'm originally from Iowa. I hadn't heard about the bumper crop in the US. What about the crazy biofuel industry?

Super photo...seems the bumper crop could be put to good use with a little innovation, motivation. fav

Beautiful shot. I haven't heard of a bumper crop either. When we lived in IL there was lots of corn, but most of it was used for fuel or as absorbent material in diapers and such.

Great layers and textures in this capture Peter.

great shot, like the way the red in the roof echos in the trees.

The photo certainly tells a story. Terrific capture. Love the textures and contrasts.

Beautiful fall colors, and that weathered barn looks at home in that environment. I hate hearing that food is getting wasted because of economics.....I hope there is a better solution for all.

That is not good news for the farmers. Great capture, however! Love the faded roof and how the leaf color matches the rust. FAV

Business is business - that is what they tell you. Have you never seen places where they dump or crush tons and tons of produce to keep the price high while people in lesser developed countries are starving to death. Beautiful capture.

farming is a hard business, most of the large farms have the crop sold long before harvest. still it's a shame to see it not go to good use somewhere.

This is a beautiful capture. Your commentary is so true and leaves me questioning why people are starving when much of the world is blessed and think nothing of waste.

What a great find and a great shot. I love the colors, too, and the rusty roof. Sad story, though.

I am very fond of old barns. Really like the various textures and the muted colours in this. Fav.

It's a beautiful fall scene...but your commentary is sad.

Lovely capture.

Great shot, and yes it is all very sad, but that is economics. I guess that the crop was sold in the beginning of the season.

What a shame Peter, her's hoping they get a fair price

A great capture...and a great commentary of all the different factors that go against those struggling to hold onto small farms.

Fabulous colours and textures, brilliant shot

Great shot and sad story, but what we can do?

Beautiful old barn and scene, but very sad commentary, and Dione's comment is shocking. I had no idea. It all seems so wrong.

I hope it isn't that bad Peter! I do know that most of the fields around where I live were mostly corn. Very little soy beans.
