Pompeii is an ancient Roman city that was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D., here seen in the background. I thought a monochrome rendition of this photo may best illustrate the uniqueness of a city frozen in time.

I saw a display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the 70's that contained many pieces that were uncovered in Pompeii. It truly is a unique place. I'd love to see it if I ever got to Italy.
Very dramatic capture of old Pompei. I was there two years ago and took many shots but it never crossed my mind to do them in mono. Yours came out fabulous.
what a great capture. The shape of the clouds seem to echo the curves of the building structure. That straight road leading the eye right to the mountain is fabulous - especially how it is bathed in light.
