I came across this holiday snap on my PC and felt so pleased with it (in retrospect) that I thought I would share it in the Extras album.
This is the West Coast line from Fort William to Mallaig, Scotland. It's a working National Rail route, and they run these steam specials through the summer. This is the Glenfinnan Viaduct, featured in the Harry Potter films.
I can't believe how perfect this shot is - you only had a second to get the very first car before it went out of frame...but you captured it...with the smoke...and the bridge...
This is a brilliant composition and fav for me. Such wonderful detail and I hope you are going to frame it and put it on your wall somewhere because it's too nice to hide away!
@ingridrudi Ingrid, haha, yes it is real! You can ride this train every day over the summer months. It goes through some of the most beautiful scenery in Britain.
Oh, my, Peter, I thought your title was because it looked so much like something from Harry Potter. . .but it was the actual scenic location. What a grand find. . .and I understand completely why you'd be so please with it! fav
Lovely! I would love to ride that train one day! Not just because I'm a Potter fan, but also because it must be absolutely gorgeous out there. Plus the historian in me would enjoy the feel of an old train. :)
It's amazing. I can almost hear the whistle :-)
