A gem from our visit to Warwick was this collection of ancient buildings. Purchased by
Queen Elizabeth's favourite, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, in the 16th century, he established it as a "hospital" in the old meaning - a place of hospitality - for former soldiers of the English Army. It remains a charity with the same aims today, one of the oldest such organisations in the UK.
"Leycester" is the old spelling, Leicester the modern. I suspect in time it will become Lester!
