The Leycester Hospital by peadar

The Leycester Hospital

A gem from our visit to Warwick was this collection of ancient buildings. Purchased by
Queen Elizabeth's favourite, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, in the 16th century, he established it as a "hospital" in the old meaning - a place of hospitality - for former soldiers of the English Army. It remains a charity with the same aims today, one of the oldest such organisations in the UK.

"Leycester" is the old spelling, Leicester the modern. I suspect in time it will become Lester!
Gorgeous buildings - we've never actually walked around Warwick, just been to the castle. Must visit tho, it looks so pretty
