This mid-Kent village rose to prominence as the site of the earliest formal crossing of the River Medway upstream from the Thames. See my main album photo for today at https://365project.org/peadar/365-2019-20/2019-05-02
Following later developments up- and down-stream from here, Aylesford itself survived largely untouched by the rush of the industrial revolution until the establishment of a paper mill nearby (which did well until the demise of the newspaper industry and closed in 2015).
The High Street and immediate environs survive and include many historic buildings - parts of the Church date back to the 12th century. It is one of those mid-Kent villages which are bypassed by one or both of the main motorway arterial routes from London to the south-east coast and main ferry ports of Dover and Folkestone, and, as such, has a rather dreamy air. It is easy to forget the hordes of traffic thundering by a little over half a mile away.
