Victoria Centre Bus Stop - Nottingham - Saturday Shoppers
Back to 'street photography' - an easy way to fill a day on the 365 some might say !
Anyway, this is Bus Stop shot from across the road on Parliament Street in Nottingham.
I got about 6 shots on the two bus stops, but decided to post this because I liked the posters in the scene, the separation between the people and the movement behind the bus shelter.
I don;t know what the image says, other than it's a bit of social history, capturing a day in the life of Nottingham in May 2011.
I don't know if I've gone a little too contrasty with the image
Taking this shot you wouldn't perhaps think it scenic enough but it is amazing how interesting these street scenes are ! You get the feel of everyday life in an ordinary town !
Excellent shot the processing is perfect - I love the feel and composition of this photo - another piece of great social commentary...are you into Parr who did shots of New Brighton on the Wirral that were superb and got him in to Magnum - much to to annoyance of the old stuck in the mud types,
Phil, I love this shot!! Your so good with these street shots! One question....do people mind if you take their picture? I really want to try my hand at this, but I'm so hesitate in fear that the police may drag me off to jail for appearing to be some sort of stalker! : ((
Great street shot, the contrast works well for reinforcing the street vibe (if you know what I mean?) and the guy leaning against the lucozade advert would make a great photo in itself. Ive got to agree with @guifam, I find it hard to take street shots as Im self concious about how I must look. Im trying to practice my nonchalent look while taking pics lol
@whippeteer Frances thanks for your kind words and the links to Martin Parr.
I saw a documentary about street photography and Magnum (I think it was on BBC2 when they did a series all about photography) and they showed Martin Parr's work....I recall a cracking image (I think it was an ice cream shop ..possibly a cafe) shot in the heat of summer, it had a youth with no shirt on and his girl friend and they were ordering some food / ice cream. It may have been shot a few minutes before your shot !! I did not know it was Martin Parr though...I'm terrible at names Susan !!!
@guifam Thanks Brenda, I tend to shoot with my panasonic compact rather than my DSLR so you tend to blend in a bit better. The panasonic has quite a long zoom, so if the light is good you can get quite a good shot from distance. This was shot from across the other side of the road.
@seattle Constance, thank you very much for the fave and it is great that you like it, your street photographs always make me want to take get out and take some more :)
@judithg Judith thank you, I'm pleased tou like this shot, I'm always a little wary of posting street scenes because I don't know how well they will be received
I like the contrast and I like that you have the bus stop name in the pic so it will always be identifiable.
