I planted out some geranium bedding plants today, I've got them dotted all around the garden, in pots of varying ages and design.
This single red geranium is in an old really weathered, almost worn out terracotta plant plot.
The bit of garden the plant pot is on, is a rather steep slope / bank, so the diagonal bushes in the background are accurate.
I did a macro of the geranium heads and leaves and they turned out rather nice, but I've done a few close up macro shots, so I decided to go for a straight on shot that showed the geranium in context.
In a few weeks time, once the flower has matured, you will see an abundance of red flowers in the pot. For the moment the one flower works well in the frame.
@shadowdancer shadow, thanks for your support, the image has a sort of 'shadow style too', I think I have been influenced by your photography style and compositions :)
This is my favourite sight of summer - a red geranium in a weathered terracotta pot. Unfortunately I was thinking logically when I bought the kids a basketball net for Christmas - I'm glad it's getting used but I could weep at the attrition rate for terracotta. I have planting to do this week - should have been yesterday but it was chilly and I wimped out. PS I've started following @whippeteer - just can't get enough of whippets! Have you seen her nice work?
Oh my fav ever flower! I could not get hold of any this spring at the right time to plant them (Rotherhithe is not the best for garden stuff). I may get some bigger ones to have outside in pots they are so rewarding with their floribund nature and long season.
