Two taxi drivers waiting for a fair outside the front entrance to ASDA Arnold.
ASDA is the UK brand of the Walmart Family (or so it says on an ASDA plastic bag / bag for life / receipt / front of store / till / uniform etc.)
I went for selective colouring on the door to emphasise the location and title.
Actually these are not taxi drivers, they are 'private hire' drivers. Local by-laws state that they cannot be hailed in the street ,they can only accept pre booked fairs.
However , there may be a 'local-local' by-law, that allows them to pick up outside a taxi rank outside a supermarket ! Who knows the complexity of local by-laws and taxis.
Anyway, ASDA Arnold taxi drivers !!
I am all out of sync with my uploads..missing days in July...but pictures on memory card not uploaded to pc...365 is rather complicated eh ???
nice everyday shot - love the selective colouring! Thanks for your thoughts the other night around my job dilemmas...my work-life balance isn't as bad as it sounds (thought I do travel a lot) but I agree it could be better - the new job will still involve travel but I think in a more structured way. I might get to be home more often! Still have to wait for more info before I know for sure!!
Good choice of subject and processing. It seems rather contradictory that Walmart/ASDA customers would choose a private hire car. Public transport seems like a more sensible choice.
Well up & commenting at 12 30 am as couldn't sleep !! Great Asda picture & I like the green letters of Associated Dairies !! Looks like a good old chatting place !
@allie912 thanks allison, taxi fares are pretty reasonable for a short trip. There are a lot of bus stops outside ASDA, but the problem with UK public transport and UK town planning is that not many buses have stops near enough to your house to warrant getting on them with a weeks worth of shopping
@cath thanks Catherine :) Some taxi drivers may look a little scary, but they all need to pass a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau ) check in order to 'taxi' :)
Cracking shot! Great selective colouring.
This shot has much greater significance to me than you might realise.
Imagine how gutted I feel, knowing that my job is funded by ASDA pedal power - I feel like Doctor Faustus. I abhor all that is Walmart. I'd escape if I could, but at least their dosh is funding decent projects in this case...
@whippeteer Frances thanks for commenting, I don't know the workings of the corporate world, but ASDA has done OK by my daughters, they worked at the local ASDA while students and transferred to the local 'uni ADSA' during term time !!! Regards Phil
Phil, I really enjoy your street shots. You get a great glimpse into the moment of their lives. I love the milling of the drivers waiting for fares, the shoppers going into the store and the plain entrance to this store. ( Great use of the selective coloring) Really nice capture.
collective noun for taxi drivers? - a confusion of cabbies?
Nice selective colour, Phil. Like the composition too
