While De cluttering - I found my 'old film camera collection'
I'm off work for a few days and we've had some wonderful summer sun.
However, today it rained most of the day, which meant well it meant we should de-clutter some of the 'stuff' that fills our wardrobes !!
We sent two bags of clothes and a few household items (old briefcase, pictures, cd radio etc.) to the salvation army (decent 'stuff' not tac), but while de-clutteing I found my collection of film cameras.
The cameras did not make it to the sally army shop as they hold fond memories for me (and they are all in working order). So from left to right........in order of purchase.....
MINOLTA HI-MATIC G Compact 35mm camera : bought in 1980 for a lads summer holiday to the costa del sol in Spain. It took great pictures. It was minoltas equivalent of an olympus trip.
OLYMPUS OM20 SLR with 50mm f1.8 prime lens (the only lens I ever had for it). Bought about 1981/82 (not too sure). Still works battery beeps OK when tested. A great camera and standard ZUIKO lens was top class
OLYMPUS MJU : A pocket compact, bought as a 'panic birthday present' for the wife in 1991. Why I bought her a camera I have no idea, as she never showed any interest in cameras, but i thought she could capture our daughters with ist as they grew up. It was state of he art when I bought it. It too still has a working battery
COLOUR SLIDE FILM : ASA 200 : Expired 2007 : Why on earth did I buy a slide film. I don't own a projector (only a little slide viewer). I think I bought it because I joined Arnold and District Camera club in 2003 and slides was still a popular way of photographing ! If you bought slides the price included processing, so I'm going to run the film through the OM20 and see if Boots will process it !!
A FLASH (bought for the MINOLTA at time of purchase). No batteries in this so I don't know if it still works !
Anyway essay over. I wasn't really into photography that much during the 80's 90's and early 00's, it wasn't until I discovered digital cameras that my interest grew
Oh so nice glad you kept that collection. I have a few myself, my dads old box brownie with flash c.1953 or maybe earlier, I hear 620 film will fit it and I used to love using it - and a few other oddities, but my best is his old leica CL I really must give it whirl cos it take ace shots it has such wonderful quality lenses. Will you be doing some film posts then Phil I think Denise Reagan does a lot of very interesting shots using old polaroids etc and gives lots of great technical details.
at a kids science demo using film cannisters to make mini rockets, the demonstrator had to explain to them all what film cannisters were, it was funny to see the reaction of kids who only know digital, they couldnt believe you had to wait days to see your pics! of course all us adults felt like dinosaurs then. Like you I cant quite bring myself to get rid of my old cameras although I know I should...
nice one - I got my old Canon EOS 50 out the other day - it's such a good camera but not very useful nowadays! I'm thinking about upgrading to a Canon 60D...should be getting a bonus next month which might help sway the decision!
@sparkle thanks juliette, DSLR's are great cameras but require a big investment and a big camera bag !!! Quite a few manufacturers are now doing compacts with interchangeable lenses that shoot raw ....worth considering ?
@whippeteer thanks frances, i'd love to see how your leica compares with your iphone........lol.......no competition really !!!!! thanks for all your nice comments
@nodecaff cheers dean, i don't think i will be going all retro and film !!! Although i did shoot a few images on the 2007 expired slide film this afternoon through my OM20...felt quite good, manual focussing, fixed focal lenght lens, fixed ISO !!!
@phil_howcroft Now there's a challenge I had better rev it up. The light meter battery needs to be totally replaced cos the original was very unenvironmental and has run down now - very pricy - but I could always just guess!
@phil_howcroft I wish I could attach the lenses to the iphone there is a gizmo for dslr lenses that someone has come up with - it looks totally weird but works really well! It is a rangefinder - very light and quiet.
