chair 'o' planes and the Nottingham Riverside Festival

We went to the Nottingham Riverside Festival on the embankment of the River Trent today.

Essentially it is a 'free event' held over 3 days by the banks of the river Trent at the famous Nottingham landmark...... Trent Bridge.

The event includes music, street entertainers, traction engines, craft fayres and of course the obligatory travelling fair

This is the chair-o-plane ride shot against the sky and converted to B/W to make a bit more impact.

I like the diagonal of the swings against the white background.

I went +2.7EV on the exposure to keep detail in the people and get a blank white canvas for the sky
Very good! Great contrasts, and yes, the diagonal works great, and so does b&w. Cool shot!

love this! great capture!

This is really cool and (speaking as a frame fan) I love this WITHOUT a frame as they are swingin out in to the big white yonder. I like the way you slip 'traction engines' in as though it's obvious that there would be some of those!

I'm not too sure about the tree in the bottom left hand corner ..i don't know if it gets in the way a bit or is distracting

This is a fav, Phil. Looks great in b&w and I love the space on the right of the pic. Really great framing!
August 10th, 2011
Faved! This stark b/w is perfect for this shot. I love how everybody is doing something different, its very surreal. Well done Phil :o)

@whippeteer cheers Francis, not really a whizz, I just experiment a bit with the settings and know a few basic rules of photography !

@phil_howcroft You're welcome. I had thought about going on the Saturday for the fireworks but I had a weird day and didn't make it in the end.

@sarahhorsfall thanks sarah, i did not spot the 'hand holding'...see you have such attention to detail....can you see the bug in the top right hand corner !
August 12th, 2011
Great shot... brilliant in black and white. It's been years since I have been on one of those - you have captured the fun of the moment with everyone looking relaxed. Nicely done.
