Urban Arnold : Entrance to the Library

I haven't done any shots for a few days, so here is an image from last month.

This is Arnold, Nottingham, my home town.

Arnold is about 3.5 miles north of the city of Nottingham

Arnold has it's nice bits (not many I may add), but the library and leisure centre is a 1970's style urban design and is not the most aesthetic building you could wish to see !!

From the car park you have to walk through a dark tunnel to reach the entrance.

I've tried to show an urban gritty B/W shot of the entrance to the library (the entrance is on the left hand side as you leave the tunnel ).
Great black and white

Nice one. Looks very 70s architecture (when they specialised in bliting everything they touched.)

The concrete roof makes it - effortless letterbox for you mister howcroft

Not such great building during those times. I think they lacked imagination. Maybe they spent too much of their brains tripping on acid or something. I don't know, Phil... This shot is almost depressing for a library. Looks like they could brighten it up with some plants in pots or something. It is definitely urban gritty! You captured it well, indeed!

I like a good bit of B&W urban grit with a suitably placed pedestrian. I don't think 1970's architects gave any thought to feelings of pedestrian safety though or the fact that grey is hardly anybody's colour of choice for environment but they did inadvertantly make some good photos. I'm struggling at the mo - haven't have a shot I like since Thursday!

It sort of looks lonely. Nice B&W shot.

It is a rather depressing place but there again we do tend to pick out our best views usually so we can all find places in our towns like this !!! You have captured the rather run down feel & general ordinariness of every day life !!! Looking beyond here into the sunlight looks a much brighter picture !!!

The plants are the first thing that struck me. They appear to be an attempt by the library (?) to soften the stark 70s architecture and that is quite heartening. Good interesting shot Phil with lots to think about.

Blimey thats grim!! How clever of you to take that shot, makes you realise what a load of uninspired (for want of a better word!!) architects there were!!

looks a bit like areas of Stevenage new town which has er interesting architecture. I like the swap from brick to iron shutter...great progression in textures!
