azalea bushes by phil_howcroft

azalea bushes

Azalea bushes on my patio.

These bushes have been under our back window for a few years now.

Every spring they provide a beautiful splash of colour.

The purple is always behind the pink. It would be nice if both were in full bloom together and the pink seems to have spread quite a bit more

I was going to do a macro of the inside of one of the flowers, but decided the beauty of the whole bush needs to be seen and appreciated.

I must pick that peg up, that's underneath the purple bush !!
Wow - I wish mine would flower like that. do you live in an area where you can plant them straight in the ground?

@busylady judith, well our soil is a bit 'clay...ish', I assume that's good :)

They're looking gorgeous, Phil. I'm sure they've enjoyed all the rain!

Where we live we have to plant them in pots of ericaceous soil - I think that means it's acidic, but in some parts of the country they already have acidic soil so they can go straight in the ground.

I think you have to have quite acid soil to grow azaleas well & these are beautiful, I do like the combination of the two colours. It's a wonder Ruby hasn't spied that peg but there again she probably put it there in the first place !!

Makes me think of that line in the Steve Martin / Kathleen Turner film Man With Two Brains... "Those aren't arsehoes they're Azaleas..."

Beautiful, Phil. Our azalea bloomed about a month ago. It is fun having a second Spring through photographs. I didn't notice the clothespin/peg til you pointed it out. Isn't it funny how much more observant we are about our "stuff".
