On Saturday we went up into the Peak District for some serious walking.
We started off in Ashford in the Water, walked up the hill via fields, paths and many stiles and paths up to Monsal Head, where we had a picnic overlooking the valley. We then dropped into the valley, followed the River Wye into Deepdale and then worked our way back high above the River into Ashford in the Water.
We started out walk about 10.00 and we were back at the car at about 13.30. Quite a few photo shoots along the way...captured in the montage above.
Clockwise from top left hand corner ...
Jane on a nice bridge over the River Wye
Monsal Head Viaduct (no trains pass over it now...just hikers and push bikes)
Snow drifts still lingering on the paths on top of the hills....Jane sending a picture message to our daughters on her mobile phone !
A steep climb up a field.
The sun shone for the first hour but it went a bit cloudy after our picnic.
A great day out, we stopped off in Chesterfield on the way home looking for shoes and a handbag for the wedding.
Back home to listen to the 2nd half footie commentary as Bolton climbed into a play off position !!
Looks like a deal of great exercise, great photo ops and great company! I had a similar day, except with much less exercise. You'll see my posting later. The wedding is getting closer and it sounds like you're on top of things. (Hope you found a nice handbag!)
@allie912 thanks Allison...no hadbag or shoes yet....Jane has her MOB (Mother of the Bride) outfit ..... but still needs her accessories !!! Easy for me though .....morning suits all round for the men :)
A perfect, perfect day Phil!!! We can't walk at the moment as Harry is having knee trouble so is grounded...all the lovely weather last week too!
This looks fabulous scenery & still some thick snow around unbelievable!!!
Bolton have done well!!
@happypat thanks pat, yes bolton have done well recently....it was surprising to see the snow high on the peaks, it was hard to walk through at times too
@maggiemae thanks maggie , the viaduct is very s spectacular......it used to carry stream trains into Manchester....believe it or not some of the trains that crossed the bridge had come all the way form London
The essence and beauty of Derbyshire captured perfectly! I used to do a lot of cycling up there when I lived in Sheffield and later on in Stafford and then Wakefield - happy memories.
