50 mono portraits at 50mm : No. 3 : Verity by phil_howcroft

50 mono portraits at 50mm : No. 3 : Verity

I am going to attempt to take 50 mono portraits with my 50mm lens, 50 at 50mm

This is image No. 3 : Verity

I'm easing my way into my challenge by photographing a few members of Arnold and District Camera Club.

I felt a tad nervous taking this shot because verity is an expert portrait photographer. In fact she is an expert at all genre's of photography.

She told me that when you take a photo of a woman she should look over her right shoulder, whereas a man should look over his left shoulder ! Apparently it is more photogenic that way. Well I didn't know that but will bear it in mind.

The background is a bit busy in this shot with the bright blob on the wall.

I hope I have done Verity justice

You can see Verity's work on her facebook page. I'd encourage FB users to have a peek.

You are getting great practice & picking up lots of tips ....glad you are passing them on to us! I like this one & makes a change from a man portrait which is usually the norm. Good work Phil.

I didn't know that about looking over one shoulder or another. You will have to test it for us and see if you agree. This is a very striking portrait with her dark hair and eyes. Keep up the good work!

Good on you - it's always so intimidating to make a portrait of a legend! I'll keep her advice in mind too. I know from the front girls tilt one way and men the other. I'd consider lightening her face up a bit more but not sure what story you're trying to tell. You got balls sir.

@sidecar thanks carlita :), i did ask verity if i needed to 'fill in flash' and she said it was fine without , no story to tell , I'm using my 50 / 50mm to learn the skill of portrait photograph, a genre I am not comfy with....just pushing myself outside my comfort zone :)

@annied oh dear razor throat, well your spoken word is always good Annie :) . Flickr appears to be the main site on the net for photo sharing, although some of the content is dodgy !
