50 mono portraits at 50mm : No. 37 : Waiting for her coach to Grantham from Skeggy
I had an idea for a photo on our day trip to Skegness.
All seaside promenades have shelters, some posh, some old, some new, some falling down. These shelters seem to attract a wide variety of people who want to enjoy a sit down.
Skegness has a few shelters along the front and I knew I could find another 'sitter' for my portrait series
I spotted a couple of old ladies sat in one shelter, so I decided to approach them for a photo.
When I asked this lady for a photo she thought I was one of those "old school seafront photographers" who charge the holidaymakers for photos. She asked me "how much will it cost !!". I explained I was an amateur photographer and photography was a hobby and all I wanted to do was take her picture :)
She seemed really pleased that I wanted to take her picture and willingly gave me a nice smile and pose.
She said they were waiting for their coach to pull up on the prom to take them back to Grantham
I showed her the photo on the back of my camera and she really liked it
Edited in Rawtherapee with an Ilford Pan F Plus 50 film emulation and then sent to GIMP to clone out a few bits of graffiti edging into the right hand side of the frame
Great capture...and you are quite the charmer aren't you? I bet you made her day and she has been talking about it non stop!! Love how you portraits are so clear and your models seem to all have so much character. You have a good eye and talent for processing!
Oh goodness - I'd forgotten about the old seaside photographers!
I'm not surprised she liked her portrait - you bring out the best in people (I think that may well be because of your respect and your unforced friendliness) and so your subjects will like your photos of them.
