Round 2 of 100 strangers begins in fine style, with Shreck and Ivor.
Shreck is 11 year old Comtois and Breton (French heavy draught horse).
Ivor is his handler and Debbie, just out of shot is his owner.
I met Shreck and Ivor at the Inland Waterways Association (IWA) Festival of Water 2017, held on the banks of Erewash Canal in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
Shreck was massive and I mean massive. He is 16.2 hands and weighs almost 1 tonne.
Ivor told me that Napoleon used the use them to launch his ships.
I asked Ivor and Debbie about Shreck's headgear. DEbbie told me that it keeps him cool in the summer and also keeps the flies out of his ears.
Shreck was rescued from France when he was 18 months old. He was about to be sold for meat when Debbie saw him online. As you can see, the story had a happy ending and Shreck.
Shreck lives in Breaston in Derbyshire, so it was a relatively short trip to the IWA festival. Shreck was a popular attraction at the event. He was ever so gentle and laid back, but you had to be there to appreciate the size of him.
Back in the day, horses like Shreck used to pull narrow boats along the canal. Ivor's outfit reflects what a narrow boat owner would have worn all those years ago.
I took quite a few shots of Shreck , Ivor and Debbie and said I would email them to Debbie.
This picture is number 101 in my second round of my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page

Ivor looks like a real gentle-man
Shreck is lovely. Those gentle giants are beautiful. I do like his headgear - traditionally made by the looks of it. Narrowboats used to have crocheted privacy curtains up at the windows - some probably still do but sadly a lot of the traditional decoration is dying out.
