Saint Mary's Church , Arnold by phil_howcroft

Saint Mary's Church , Arnold

I did a photo of Saint Mary's Church in the summer using my Samyang 12mm lens.

This is done on a 28mm lens so the church fills the frame more,

The low afternoon sun has lit the stonework up rather nicely

Edited in GIMP
I love how solid square towers look. This very much reminds me of the church at Grantchester, which is one of my favourites. The sun is lovely on that stonework.
I have never yet worked out how to get a building of this size straight - it always leans somewhere! There must be a cunning trick I know not of....

It's a fine old structure - dating from the reign of King Henry II it says in Wikipedia. Looking at architectural images like this (and reading @casblanca 's comment) I am so tempted to get a tilt/shift lens to overcome the parallax - and they also do wonderful panoramas.

@casablanca @ellida Graham casa' I did think of straightening the converging verticals in post processing as it is quite a straightforward edit. However i think there is a bit of an optical illusion happenning too as the church is not square on to the path where I am standing . If you look at Google maps it is probably maybe 30 degrees off , so I think that may be part of the issue too . Thanks for your kind words . The church is beautiful

Churches make such interesting subjects to photograph, and the older the better. Good shot Phil.
