Another photo from the Hockley Hustle on Sunday. A charity event in Hockley , Nottingham. I got lots of good photos of the creatives taking part in the event. I wanted to return from the event with a portrait for my strangers project.
We were in Revolution for an event hosted by culturalvibrations , we stayed there for quite some time as the acts performing were all really good. One of the artists was Uncle Bimz, a singer , songwriter and creative, he also sang alongside gambino_akuboy and artist celebrating music of Ghanania origin.
Uncle Bimz looked really cool in his glasses and baseball hat, so after he’d performed I asked him if I could take his photo.
“Where do you want me to stand?”
“Can we step outside the venue as it’s dark in here and the lighting isn’t good for photos?”
“Let me put my fur coat on as I look better in that”
I was hoping he would do that (I’d seen him wearing it earlier in the afternoon) as it was perfect for a street photo.
So we stepped outside the venue and I asked him to stand in the doorway.
“Actually I didn’t catch your stage name, what was it Doctor ….something?”
“It’s Uncle Bimz, I am older than I look and Uncle gives me credibility”
“I’m Phil, I’m an amateur photographer”
We bumped fists / shook hands.
Uncle Bimz struck some poses for me with little direction, other than where to look and to step away from the middle of the doorway”
I took several shots and I am pleased with the results,
Uncle Bimz’s son was in the venue , admiring his dad performing
I think I got all the facts right, some were from what the MC said culturalvibrations
Thanks for letting me photography you Uncle , I hope you like the photos
Oh and when I went out to photograph Uncle Bimz, Jane was having a group whatsapp with our daughters “so here I am on my own in Revolution, Dad’s stepped outside to photograph one of the artists” …. “Revolution, that’s a trendy venue for you two !!!!” … no mention about me stepping outside with a stranger … I think they are used to it now !
A beautiful portrait Phil, I love his composure and the tilt of his head as he embraces the sunlight !Love your chosen background warm colours to compliment Uncle Bimz- fav
@beryl thanks for the fave and lovely comment Beryl , I have some photos of Uncle Biz looking directly too me but I prefer this pose for a bit of attitude
That is a very cool shot. Something very appealing about the textures you have caught well on the coat, the beard and lips. Reflections in the sunnies are a bonus too.
@carole_sandford thanks Carole :)
