Read an article this morning in the paper that, because of the early warm spring, there was a lack of bugs and grubs at the time most of the Passerine birds were hatching their young. The report said that Blue Tits and Great Tits have decline by some 50% this year, and Great Tits by around 35%. I also recall some years ago reading that the common House Sparrow had declined some 98% since the 1950s.
I think that the representatives of the RSPB should pop to my garden as at the moments it’s swarming with all four of these birds, as well as flocks of Goldfinches.
The Long Tailed Tit is the smallest in the family and to me, by far and away, the cutest.
Thank you for your views, comments and favs on yesterday’s offering. Much appreciated.
I wish I had tits visiting in my backyard, too, but they aren't native around here. Chickadees do come, and the sparrows LOVE the suets in my backyard so if there's a 98% decline in population I can't imagine how many sparrows I'd have under full-sparrow numbers!
