Actually there wasn't, but she was under a log. Isn't she a beauty! Here with her egg and all.
For non-Aussies, this is a dangerous, potentially lethal spider, but no one has died in years....

It would be a heck of an egg for a spider that size!! @markp indeed, the whole family, though I didn't search too hard for Dad, he might have provided supper:) @louannwarren@harbie I believe that they are a close relative of the black widow, and we know have a brown variant with no stripe - I'm sure someone told me that they are a hybrid with your black widow (hitch hiked on a ship I guess).
My son was bitten by one when he was young, the pain was really bad, he spent the night in hospital.
