There's a redback on the toilet seat....

Actually there wasn't, but she was under a log. Isn't she a beauty! Here with her egg and all.
For non-Aussies, this is a dangerous, potentially lethal spider, but no one has died in years....

enjoy:)
she's fabulous!

She is beautiful as long as she isn't in my garden

A huge egg - or is it an egg sack that produces more than one offspring?

Great macro family group shot.

Great find.
My son was bitten by one when he was young, the pain was really bad, he spent the night in hospital.

Oh my. Her markings are reminiscent of our black widows. No one dies but the recovery is very slow and painful.

Much better for her to be under a log :)

when I was there last night, I didn't see him in the dark .... yup that's in my head all day now hahahaha

Nicely spotted. I figured it might be a potentially dangerous spider because of the orange belly.

A great capture

Not a good news for a keen gardener like me.

Great shot and close up! Looks almost like a black widow spider in US.

@ludwigsdiana @dide Hi Di's, it is an egg sac with loads inside I'm sure! It would be a heck of an egg for a spider that size!!
@markp indeed, the whole family, though I didn't search too hard for Dad, he might have provided supper:)
@louannwarren @harbie I believe that they are a close relative of the black widow, and we know have a brown variant with no stripe - I'm sure someone told me that they are a hybrid with your black widow (hitch hiked on a ship I guess).

Oh No! NO! NO! Besides a phobia to spiders/bugs anyway, I am allergic to bees so I was told it would be the same for poisonous spiders! Yikes! Yuck!
