To this pic. : Heathfields , like this one , are created and maintain by humans. In the old days they cut peat ( for heathting purpose) till the sand. Then the heather came ,the ground/sand is poor. If nature go`s his one way it will be a forrest after time. We don`t want that , prefer the heatherfield, so we sod of let do sheeps that works (eath the young trees)
The best time to vissit is August/sept. when heather is flowering and the plane purple, you only can`t make pic. like this . Without seeing people.

Very great explanation...I love heather....you can buy it here but unfortunately it won't last as our garden soil is too rich for it. can just amagine what that whole field will look like come August/September. have your camera ready then!!!
