The windmill of Zuidzande by pyrrhula

The windmill of Zuidzande

We do have still about 1048 windmills in our country.
Every time I met one I cant resist to take pic`s of it and make a collage out of them. This one I`ve met yesterday in Zuidzande, a very little place I never have been before.
The story of this windmill goes back till 1874. and did have a commercial use till 1999.
Lovely collage. Does the painted design on the wind blades mean anything. I know that the blades have a name, but I don't remember it.

A real beauty, Pyrrhula. I love those wind mills. We still have 2 old wind mills, similar to those which are still standing and in working condition. They are protected and are tourist attractions

What a lovely collage, especially the shot top left showing the windmill dwarfing the house. I'm feeling a bit silly asking if there is any significance in the red, green and white. Not so many windmills in our area but more in Suffolk where I was born and brought up.

Great windmill collage! - we have an old mill here which was recently restored ( http://365project.org/if1/365/2012-07-29) I think they are very impressive structures!

@if1 A lot of different to see between you and our windmill. All our windmills have 4 vane`s
@quietpurplehaze . I don`t know that. I guest the first owner liked it.

@daisy No, the owner decide it. I never heard of it the blades have names , only the position of the sails when not turning gives a message

Wow1048! I would much rather look at these sprinkled across the land instead of the modern ones. Much more aesthetic!
