velvet (word of the day) and I'm out of inspiration

so I'll just share with you this most hideous of the hideous that we encountered on the beach today - no comfortable velvety feelings here!
Wowzers Hazel, is it as big as it looks in this picture?

@gemtumble Yep it really was absolutely huge and it was hard to choose whether to post this or another slightly different one but the same size as this.

Gosh, amazing photo, what a find!

Great abstract I thought until looking closer! Then I thought you better not eat that! Very subtle coloring your shot.

@gnilrets It actually gave me the heebie jeebies!

very pretty Hazel.

Can't help it Hazel, but I feel a little bit sorry for it, stranded in the sand! But on the other hand, I would not like to come up against it swimming! It's a good shot of it anyway. Like its purple frill. You LIKE purple!

Just like an alien. Good capture

@tishpics Well it's true I do like purple. But Ray got stung by a jellyfish in Corsica some years ago and had a very bad infected thigh so that probably has a bearing!

Love the textures , the lines and colors in this wonderful pic.
I know an photo-artist that`s famous of her pic`s of (dead) jelly fish , captured on the beach. This could be one.

wow...amazing shot Hazel

I'm glad you came away with a great shot and not a sting this time.
October 9th, 2012
Aargh! (The subject, not the photo!)
October 9th, 2012
@wordpixman And there were more, different shapes - think one was a Portuguese Man 'o War - but equally Aargh!

I think this is Rhizostoma pulmo. Its stinging powers are negligible and it's a beautiful creature! They grow up to 60cm in diameter. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. See you soon. J.

@glenmoor Julian, well that's comforting. I'll email you the others!!
(I guess we all see beauty differently....)

OMG - that is one horrible sight and very scarey that these things actually exist in the sea. YUK!
