first view

On my most recent visit to the Hospital of St Cross and Almshouses of Noble Poverty (at last I can remember all that without checking!) I took the back way across the fields.

This is the first view you get on this approach: the Norman church straight ahead and, to the left, the tall chimneys of the quarters of the brothers. They are not monks as this is a secular charity. A lovely, peaceful and characterful setting in which to live one's retirement.
I love this shot

Lovely perspective Hazel.

I like the light hazel and the colours are really gorgeous and almost 'retro film'. I would have been tempted to move a bit to the left and therefore try to use the tree as a natural stopper / frame on the rigjt hand edge of your shot . At the moment it is blocking some of the buildings and i want to see more of them. Just my little opinion hazel, i am not necessarily right (hope that is ok)

@phil_howcroft

I'll be going again as I'm about to become a friend of St Cross with an annual admission and i'll think about what you said, thanks. I always welcome constructive criticism. I can't remember exactly where the little stream is in relation to the tree, might need some wellies!!!! (My husband Ray looked at this and said something similar to you.)

@quietpurplehaze ahhh ray has a good eye then hazel. I did think if it may be difficult to move left. You could always move right and use the tree as a left hand side stopper / frame :-)

Fantastic picture and perspective.

Fabulous building. Great timing with this picture, as I just read a book about the Normal occupation of Saxon lands (although it's fictional, just set during that time).

I really like all the components in this - the fascinating buildings, the sheep, the tree - but echoing some other comments I'd have the tree further to the right of the frame. Still a fav though.

@rosiekerr

this is the great hall where the brethren used to have their meals - they have their own apartments now http://365project.org/quietpurplehaze/add-ins/2014-12-27

and this is inside the Norman church at Christmas 2014 http://365project.org/quietpurplehaze/365/2014-12-25
I'm becoming a friend of St Cross with annual free entry so there will be more!!

Great view and shot and composition of this beautiful Hospital of St Cross and Almshouses of Noble Poverty

It looks just as beautiful on the outside as your inside pictures show. I am in agreement with Phil. I wish the tree was a little to the right so that I could see more of the buildings. But it's still a nice shot.

Very interesting! You live in a beautiful spot, and I am enjoying all your little historical tours very much.

Such interesting buildings peeking behind that tree. I almost missed the sheep, they blend in so well.
