It's not often you find an assistant and a dog sitting on the floor when you go into a shoe shop. But that's what happened when I went into Shuropody (sells shoes and has chiropodists on hand).
My intention that day was not to take any portraits but after 'conversing' with the dog I just couldn't help myself and took my camera out of my bag and asked for a photo.
The young lady, Natalie, was quite happy with that but nobody knew the name of the dog. His lady owner is a customer and brings him with her as dogs are allowed (rare indeed in Winchester). On the day in question she needed to do a bit of food shopping so asked if she could leave him in Shuropody.
I asked Natalie about her hobbies and she told me that she doesn't have time for outside interests as she works during the day Shuropody and in the evening in her local Tesco Express. Her only day off is Friday.
Then I discovered that she is a graduate of Winchester University with a degree in Digital Media Design, obtained after 3 years of study.
As for the little dog, his owner returned before I left so I asked his name. He's Kubo, a diminutive of Jakob in Slovak. I complimented her on her English and she told me she has lived here for over 10 years.
It was difficult to get an uncluttered photo. But I was not about to get down on the floor. (It's the getting up you understand.)
Pretty young lady beautifully captured stunning light, colour and clarity Hazel, thanks for the background to the shot, such a shame Natalie has put all that work in and has not found work in her chosen vocation:)
Sign of the times, Peter, I'm afraid. Natalie is the second person I've met during my strangers who is doing a mundane job she could have done without a degree. Thank you for your comments, appreciated.
Lovely portrait of pretty Natalie and little Kubo . She is very hardworking I hope she finds a job in her chosen career. I would love to purchase a little packet of Heaven that they have for sale.
I've been in the same situation. It's hard to let a 'find' go! I usually end up doing some 'doctoring' in order to keep it. I'm glad I can compare notes with you!

Ah, hadn't thought of that - he certainly would!
