This was how this little fella was described in a notice on the aviary where he lives with more kookaburras in deepest Dorset at Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens.
The camera 'cut through' most of the wires. Would love to know why the kookaburra is laughing.
Fabulous, your kookaburra looks a lot happier than the one in our garden at the moment and a lot drier too. ha ha.

I believe their laugh is territorial, telling others to watch out, especially if they have food in their mouths.
Babs - that's amazing - have listened to both, this is the best - thank you. (I think they should get that one in the tropical gardens laughing somehow!)
We used to sing a song when I was little that went: Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree; merry, merry king of the bush is he; laugh Kookaburra, laugh Kookaburra, gay your life must be! But it doesn't explain why they're laughing, does it? Great shot!
I thought you & Ray had nipped down to Australia for a minute Hazel! I have listened to the amazing laugh thanks to @onewing for posting link. So like a laugh it's uncanny!
Denise, wish you could send me the sound! This one was totally silent!!

When you have a gang of them together it is difficult not to laugh along with them.
