What in the world?

I noticed this hanging off a branch in my yard. I presume it's some sort of insect pod. Wonder what will hatch from it?

@acloserlookpbd I went back to take another photo. Don't know if there was something inside or the wind and rains got to it, but it was twice as long and half the girth.
