Working on a project for photography club next week. So thought I do a knitting theme. These are some darning eggs I've collected. And yes I do darn socks.
Fun! I have a friend who has a bowl of darning eggs she has collected. We were poor growing up, but I don't think my mom darned socks. I think we just wore them with holes!
Great collection Kathy.I think mum used a bottle,i know she showed me how to darn socks before i left home and to iron clothes with the old iron on top of the wood stove and a wet cloth. (i was 16).Since then i have never darned anything and ironed about the same !!!!
@peterlgrave Most people don't darn much, especially when socks started being made in acrylic and cotton. I, myself, hardly ever iron anything these days. @cejaanderson@tosee@homeschoolmom@barbtatum Thank you folks for your comments. This site is pretty neat if one wants to learn things. @craftymeg Thanks, Margaret. They are indeed handy.
I didn't even know about darning eggs - they are so cool! My Grandma darned a pair of my socks once... didn't see her do it, but they lasted amazingly. Lost art...
