52 Week Challenge Week #31 - old
My great grandfather made these in 1933. Paper and dust have stuck to the finish used on the furniture unfortunately, and I suspect the wood has become dried out and brittle. The messsage on top of the box says "Fragile". I believe it.
You might try some Murphy's on a cotton swab or something similar like that (there was some product touted on TV a while back that was like it- orange something- that restored aged and dried out wood.) very gently of course! It's such a beautiful little set- and he really has some great detail on it! I keep looking at the inlay on the hutch- incredible!
@corinnec Thanks for saying so Corinne. @Dawn Thank you. I just wish I had relatives that might want this. @onewing Thank you Babs. Wish I had someone to give them to who would appreciate them. @shutterbug49 Thank you. I never really talked to my grandmother about him. My loss I think. @pandorasecho Thank you Dixie. You're right. I wish I had thought to ask my grandmother more about him. Seems we never had those discussions with parents or grandparents. @olivetreeann Ann, what a good idea. Murphy's Oil soap is pretty gentle. I want to look at the door in the china cabinet more closely. I think there is something on the back of the cutwork. Thank you. @grammyn Thank you Katy. There is some really nice work here. I'm glad to have it. Shame I didn't have it as a girl, but I probably would have messed it up.
Hi Kathy. These are beautiful pieces of miniature furniture, what a talented carpenter your great grandfather must have been.
Thank you for your challenge this week. I loved the frozen flowers and they made me wonder just what your garden was like, so for your challenge I would love to see a landscape of your garden. Cheers and good luck.
@30pics4jackiesdiamond Thank you Jackie. I don't know if it's worth it or not. Like I said, I have no one to pass it on to. @allsop Thank you for your kind words. And thank you for the challenge. I will see what I can come up with. @jamibann Thank you Issi. I'm glad I have a little bit of family history around. Seems because of long moves (UK to Canada and then to the US in several places) we didn't hold on to much. @casablanca My dad was 8. It was his grandfather who made them. Thank you. @wakelys Thank you Sue. @rensala Thank you Renee. @dkbarnett Thanks Delwyn. Something to think about - having them restored. @photographycrazy Thank you Bill. @craftymeg Thank you Meg. @pyrrhula Thank you Ferry.
