Sidewalk Prophets

This is now my favorite Christmas song: “What A Glorious Night,” sung by the Sidewalk Prophets. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

The concert we attended tonight was a date on the band Newsong’s “Very Merry Christmas Tour,” but Sidewalk Prophets was one of a few other featured acts (along with Love and the Outcome, Audio Adrenaline and Jason Castro). The tickets were provided by Clare’s friend Theresa — Thank you, Theresa!

This song — both at the concert and on their Christmas CD — begins:
“Lights, please. And there were, in the same country, shepherds abiding the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them. … That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.”
Yes, this is Linus’s famous soliloquy in “A Charlie Brown Christmas” (1965), and that’s how this song begins!

The Sidewalk Prophets apparently secured all the appropriate permissions to use Linus’s voice … including the widow of Linus’s voice-actor (Christopher Shea, 1958–2010).

Audio Adrenaline's song King's and Queen's is my all time favorite song that they have ever created! It's been stuck in my head for awhile now!

I love that song by Sidewalk Prophets. Last year, we went to see Casting Crowns. I was telling my friend about their Christmas song that is my favorite. It was too early for Chritmas but they sang it! I listen to it over and over. "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day".

@danette And the choral background.
And the orchestration. Powerful!

@rhoing I haven't been very good at being open to new Christmas music but I love some of these new ones! Glad you enjoyed it.

@danette There are lots of great "standards" but there is -- apparently! -- a lot of really great *new* Christmas music!

@danette You're probably familiar with this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2xxqRm3Hyg

@rhoing I have heard it just a few times. My local station is only playing occasional Christmas. I tend to listen to a station out of Charlotte, NC on my computer because they play only Christmas after Thanksgiving and it is a Christian station. (New Life 91.9). I like their choices, though they don't play this one, my Casting Crowns favorite or the one from Sidewalk Prophets. :-( Sidewalk Prophets play some of my other favorites.

@danette I was listening to "You're Here" just now and thought of you, wondering if you were familiar with the song or with Francesca Battistelli. So I came back to this post and see I gave the link to a YouTube video. This is *still* one of my favorite *new* Christmas songs! Merry Christmas, Danette!

@rhoing thanks for thinking of me and bringing back this memory. While my station this year has played many songs I enjoy, including my Casting Crowns favorite (they did not play it last year), I don't think they are playing this Sidewalk Prophets song, which I love. Huh! Now I have to go listen!
