Opening up the patient…

I have the materials and as much "knowledge" as I'm going to have without tactile, "hands-on" info, to start the repairs on my Coffey rowing shell, so today I finally opened up the "patient."

The main "issue" is the fractured gunwale stringer (upper-left), but it turns out there's a matching fracture on the opposite side (lower-right). The breaks obviously occurred at different times.

This photo also provides some insight into how "delicate" these boats are … and how this 26½-foot boat can weigh only 30 pounds! I think the hull lining is Kevlar, http://www.explainthatstuff.com/kevlar.html
