The travel day from *youknowwhere*…

Indianapolis International Airport at 10 p.m., more than 9½ hours later than scheduled. We arrived at Logan in Boston about 6 a.m. this morning only to learn that our flight was delayed. And delayed. And delayed. It was eventually delayed enough that we could not make our connecting flight. We never received a straight answer from anyone-American-Airlines about the reason for the delays.

Initially American wanted to route us through Dallas (because everything-American goes through Dallas, right?), which makes no sense.

We ended up going to Miami, which makes about as much sense … but our bags went to Dallas anyway.

So by the time we had our bags here, it was more like 10:30 or 10:40 p.m., rather than our original arrival time of 12:30 p.m.

Hotel or 4-hour drive home?
We just got on the road, arriving home at 2:45 a.m.

Not anxious to use American Airlines again. While driving is more demanding than airport-sitting, I could have rented a car and driven from Logan to Indy and arrived about the same time…

Oh man. Hope your bags stay dry and you get home!

A very long day! I would have got a hotel for the night. Direct flights to anywhere in the USA are usually the most expensive!

@maggiemae We thought about that, and knew of a place about a 5-minute drive from the airport ... but even that was in the wrong direction. By this time, we'd had it with wrong direction travel!

Everyone here flies Southwest, and it is usually right on time. The trouble is that it is not listed on travel sites, so you must go to the Southwest web site directly. They are usually cheapest too, and their attendants tell jokes. All this is to say, give it a try. Nevertheless, my sympathy to you. We flew home from Buffalo via Baltimore with a layover of 3 hours there, making our total travel time 9 hours, and I could hardly wait for it to be over. I suspect the flooding in Houston may have played a role in your ordeal as it is a major hub.

@janeandcharlie We like Southwest!! (Indeed! Some of their flight attendants should be doing stand-up!) The difficult goal is always to get direct flights so we don't have to worry about making-or-missing a connection. I forget why Southwest wouldn't "work" this trip, but it didn't.

Oh dear!

@marlboromaam This was 6 years ago, but our experience this week was worse because we were forced to cancel our entire trip to Acadia. American Airlines. Is. The. Worst. Not because of the travel interruption — that stuff happens. The real slap-in-the-face is how the delays are dealt with by the people on the ground.

@rhoing I can imagine. I doubt I'll be flying anywhere. Air travel just hasn't been the same since 9/11. They took my crochet hooks the last time and that was years ago. Grrrr! Crochet hooks - a weapon? Give me a break!

@marlboromaam Crochet hooks -- wow! And I got through two screenings (including BOS) with my large Swiss Army Knife https://365project.org/rhoing/365/2016-12-31
